FEATURE POEMS:

Legolas' Song
dedicated to Haldir my love

in my dreams I see us
upon the crystal seas
you and i together
our love will never cease

in a ship of silver
on tossing waves of blue
we'll share our love together

our love that is so true
heading toward the sunrise
on a ship of misty grey
to a land undying
upon whose shores we'll play

by Mary Lynne Kinney

War in Haiku
A river running
bright and clearly shining true
the loveliest blue

A shade tree deep green
whistling wind blowing through leaves
a child's play day

Green and blue feathers
a parrot's proud rainment hide
soft white tufts of down

200 soldiers
50 go left, 50 go right
and the rest don't care

a child of nine, crying.

Peace
In the midst of my hectic day
I think of you.
Peace.
Where does it come from?
Why is it so hard to find without you?
Peace.
Questions from my daughter
in a neverending stream.
Peace?
Bills from anxious creditors,
requests from charities.
Peace?

The car has a flat,
The washing machine is rocking.
Peace?
But when I look into your eyes,
when I seek your face.
Peace.

    Night Music
As the moon glows above, I conceal an urge to howl
Who can tell me where these longings come from?
I step out into the velvet night and sway to the night's music.
Sounds so alien to the day that the day dwellers fear them.
Harsh grass scratches my bare calves, the meadow does not welcome me.
Am I a predator or am I a spectator?
She decides to wait to decide.
I crouch beside a spiny bush, fearful in my nakedness.
Everything is exposed to the stars and everything is found wanting.
How foolish to think I might belong.

How sad to find that I was wrong.

I cower in my insignificance and try to recapture the song.
No welcome to be found here amidst the moon lit blades.
I slink home to my teapot and the fire in my hearth.

Never more to invade, or seek acceptance from the night's silky glow.
I am alone.
